Jacob Viar

Jacob Viar graduated from Virginia Tech in the fall of 2017 with a B.S. in Nanoscience and a minor in leadership. While studying as an undergraduate, Jacob worked as an undergraduate researcher in the Matson Group in the chemistry department. During his time in the Matson Group, his project  investigated synthesis of novel small molecule and polymeric drug delivery systems, specifically hydrogen sulfide (H2S).

After graduating from Virginia Tech, Jacob worked as a lab technician from 7/9/2018-12/31/2019 for a materials research company called NanoSonic in Pembroke, VA. During that time, he was introduced to a variety of industrial processes which included additive manufacturing (AM).

Jacob returned to Virginia Tech as a master’s student in materials science and engineering and has been a member of the Dreams Lab since January 2020. He is currently researching novel methods to produce multifunctional continuous-fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) composite structures for electromagnetic applications using additively manufactured sacrificial tooling.
